COME BE A PART OF OUR FAMILY

Congratulations on seeking a Catholic education for your child.  While we are extremely proud of our rich heritage of over 155 years, we are even more excited and confident about our future.   Through the efforts of our pastor and various parent Leadership Boards, we offer a holistic education steeped in Christian values.   Although teaching children about their Catholic faith is the main reason for our existence, we are equally as strong in our academic offerings.   We offer a variety of programs and enrichment opportunities that allow each student to grow to his/her ability academically, morally, socially, physically, and individually.   There is also a wide spectrum of extra-curricular options available to students in grades 5-8 including band, yearbook, school paper, school play, Science Olympiad, Math Club, Spanish Club, Tech Team, and numerous sports options including tackle football, cross country, track, volleyball, cheerleading, and basketball.

Our 2009-10 school year began on Wednesday, August 19 with an enrollment of 619.  There are a handful of openings remaining and interested families should call the school office at (630) 355-0113 for further information.  Our secretaries will be in the office daily from  7:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. to assist you.

    Registration FAQs

When can new families register for the 2010-11 school year?

We held an Open House on Monday, October 19 and will hold another on Tuesday, February 2. Parents will be allowed to visit classrooms from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.,  meet with the principal, and register.

Are registrations for kindergarten held on a first-come, first-serve basis?

No.  New registrations are based on length of a family being registered in the parish.  First, however, we accept children of siblings who were enrolled in school as of August 19, 2009.  If there are openings after that, then we take registrations from Ss. Peter & Paul Parish.  Our recent history indicates that the class is not made up entirely of siblings.  Currently, we have received commitments for sixty-one of our seventy openings.

What if we belong to a Naperville parish besides Ss. Peter & Paul?

You may still enroll your child, but you will be billed an additional $1,000 per child as an out of parish family.

Can we join Ss. Peter & Paul parish?

Yes.  You must first obtain a written release from your current pastor before registering at Ss. Peter & Paul.

Do alumni of Ss. Peter & Paul School receive a priority?

While our policy does not currently give any advantage to our alumni, we realize their importance to our school and make every effort to process their applications to a successful conclusion.

What do I need to know about registering a kindergarten student for next year?

    - Your child must be five years old by September 1, 2010.
    - When you come to register you need to bring a birth certificate, baptismal certificate, and a $75 non-refundable registration fee.
    - On the registration form you are asked your preference for the half-day program (7:30 - 11:15) or the full day program (7:30 - 2:15)

    What is the class size?

School Board policy allows us to have 35 students per class in grades 1-8. However, Math and Language Arts offerings in the jr. high do not exceed 25 students. Grades 1-3 have a teacher aide in the morning when the skilled subjects like Reading and Math are taught.  This year we have two full-day kindergarten classes of twenty-four students and a half-day morning program with twenty children.

In addition, given the adjunct members of our faculty who work with children but do not have homerooms, our student-teacher ratio is 20:1.

What does SSPP offer besides the core curriculum?

Students are offered Spanish, Technology, Physical Education, Art, and Music.

Are there any programs for special needs children?

We have one program called Project Discover that is staffed by four people.  This program allows us to work with small groups of children who benefit from additional small group instruction. It is not a special education class, however.  We also have extra Math and Language Arts teachers as those subjects are ability-grouped and which greatly reduces the teacher-pupil ratio.

Another popular program is Project Explore.  It is an elective for jr. high students and features higher level thinking skills and meets in the morning before school.  Students qualify for this program via their standardized test scores, quarterly grades, and teacher input.

We also have a Speech teacher on site.

How is the registration process handled?

Registration forms are now available online.

What determines whether or not Fr. Milota accepts a family?

Generally, the family must be a registered, practicing, and contributing member of our parish.  We want families who will reinforce the Catholic practices and customs the children learn at school.  It is also imperative that families use their envelopes to show their regular church attendance and support of the parish.

What does it cost to send a child to your kindergarten?

Our current per pupil costs for the 09-10 year are predicated on a $4,700 per pupil cost with the following tuition rates:
      Kindergarten - Half Day $2,764
    1 child $3,470 3 children $9,716
    2 children $6,593 4 or more children $11,104

What will the tuition be for half-day versus full-day kindergarten?

While the School Board will not set the official tuition for the 2010-11 until March, they have determined that half-day kindergarten will be billed at 80% of the full-day assessment.

    Is financial aid available?

Through the efforts of our Development Board's Golf Outing, foundation grants, and endowed scholarships, Fr. Milota generally has $80,000 annually that he can parcel out to needy families.  They are defined as people suffering temporary hardship caused by such things as a job loss, death, separation or divorce.  Qualifying families may receive as much as one-half of their tuition waived.  All those seeking assistance must apply through FACTS.

Who makes up the difference between the actual per pupil costs and tuition?

We are fortunate that our pastor, Fr. Milota, and our parish leaders consider funding our school one of their top priorities.  This year they have invested (subsidized) $550,000 toward our operational budget.  Our Home & School contributes $90,000 from their fund-raising efforts and earnings from our Capital Endowment & Teachers' Endowment provides an additional $150,000 in revenue.

How long can fundraising close this gap?

Throughout our history, we have been blessed with many visionary religious and lay leaders.  In 1988, former pastor Fr. James Lennon encouraged the School Board to embark upon a development program.  Since that time, our Development Board has been working very hard to seek alternative sources of revenue.  To date, we have a Capital Improvement Endowment that supplements the cost of annual capital projects; a Teachers' Endowment that currently generates $75,000 in earnings that are used to supplement teachers' salaries, and a Tuition Assistance Endowment that provides financial aid to needy families.  Without these endowments, every family's tuition would have been increased by $850.

What if we live in a neighboring town?

Our student body current includes children from Warrenville, Bolingbrook, Lisle, Aurora, Joliet, Plainfield, and Wheaton.  The first criteria is being a practicing Catholic.   If you don't belong to our parish, however, you would have to pay an additional $1,000 per child above tuition should you not be a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Parish.

How does Ss. Peter & Paul School compare to the local public schools?

Unfortunately, Catholic schools are not allowed to take the I-Sat's which are administered only to the government schools.  Thus, there is no available data for comparison.   In the Joliet Diocese, students now take the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills in the fall.   Results indicate that our students score well above the national norm in Reading, Math, and Language Arts. In addition, we also score above the diocesan averages.  Furthermore, we regularly dialogue with the area high schools to ensure that our students are well prepared to excel once they graduate from Ss. Peter & Paul School.

How do Ss. Peter & Paul graduates fare in high school?

Among recent graduates, we have six Eagle Scouts; another who scored a perfect 800 on the writing portion of her SAT; seven starters on either the Benet Academy or Naperville North volleyball teams; and the Salutatorian at St. Francis HS two years ago.  We believe in a holistic approach to education and are proud of students who succeed in academics, community service, athletics, and extra-curriculars.

How qualified is the faculty and do they have stability?

All of our teachers are fully degreed and certified by the state of Illinois.  Furthermore, one-half of our faculty has their Master's Degree.  As for longevity, the personal enjoyment and professional satisfaction they derive from working in our school community is evidenced by the fact that we have nearly the same amount who have been with us for ten years or longer.

What happens after our child is accepted into kindergarten?

You and your child will receive a letter in November inviting you to our Kindergarten Round-Up taking place on March 4.

Does Ss. Peter & Paul School have a preschool?

Currently we do not.  While this issue was investigated several years ago, the recommendation was to pursue a full-day kindergarten option and an extended day program.
